Triple Pine Needle Gourd by Charlotte Durrence
Welcome to our retreat web site. Our retreat is designed to help spread our knowledge of decorating gourds with all our friends. We would like to invite you to join us at the Gourd Retreat we sponsor near Savannah, Georgia. It will be held on March 22-25 , 2012, at the New Ebenezer Retreat Center. We have invited teachers from all over the country to come and have classes for you. They represent a large number of new and exciting techniques in the world of gourd art. The retreat center is a beautiful place in an isolated area where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the country. Check out the retreat center at www.newebenezer.org.
We have reserved the cabins for three nights this year. We will offer classes this year beginning on Friday morning and going through lunch on Sunday. You will need to register early to get your first choice of classes. Most classes will be 3 1/2 hours and the prices will be listed on the class descriptions. Please read this page and the registration page completely before filling out the forms. Registrations may not be postmarked before January 18, 2012. You will pay a $25 registration fee again this year. Those staying at the Retreat Center will pay $65 per day for a bed in the private cottages. That includes 3 meals (supper, breakfast and lunch). We will need every bed so there will be no private rooms for single occupancy.
For those staying off campus, you will pay a $25 registration fee and then the price for each class you choose to take. If you choose to have any meals with us while at the retreat center, you need to sign up for those with your registration. Prices will be listed on the registration form. We have reserved 4 cabins this year. That is space for 48 people, so make your reservations early. Others will be given information for local motels.
The cabins have six private rooms. Each room has twin beds and a bath. The center of the cabin is a community room with a sofa and chairs and a kitchen. Because of the atmosphere of the retreat center, you will have to park your car in the front parking area and walk into the center. Carts are available to help with your luggage and a golf cart will be available if you have trouble walking. Spouses are welcome, but remember, the cost is based on a per person plan. Spouses (or mothers, friends etc.) not taking classes will not have to pay the $25 registration fee, but will pay the $65 per day for room and board.
There are many things for the spouses to see if they are not gourders. If staying on location, they have access to fishing, nature trails and an old historic church and other buildings. The retreat center does not have television or telephones in the cabins. There is a phone available for emergencies.
We will have raw gourd vendors on site but we will not have Primitive Orginals with us this year. Gourdamentals will be there with a few supplies. The instructors may have some supplies to sell in the classrooms.
If you choose to fly into the Savannah-Hilton Head Airport, we will arrange to pick you up and return you to the airport on Sunday for a fee of $10 round trip. Just let us know your flight numbers and arrival times. You may want to plan a few extra days to visit the historic city of Savannah.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE GOURD RETREAT!!
